Imagine drinking your morning coffee while enjoying the view from a cabin up on a mountain. I don't have a cabin, nor do I live on the side of a mountain. What I do have tho is steaming coffee and a cool mug.
Realism is the name of the game
As the qoute above puts it, I think a big part of any fiction creation is immersing the reader into the story, making them feel whatever the character is feeling, be it emotions or physical sensations. If you can't feel the sweat tingling your skin as the characters run, or your stomach doesn't close into a knot when they receive bad news, it's not real enough.
Realism is never the point nor the motivation of the story, but it's the only thing connecting it to the reader. It is what develops empathy between you and the character thus helping you fully understand their emotions and reasons.
